Nigerian author and father of three, Tochi Maduba Ejiofor, is seeking redress after a CNG truck allegedly crashed into his family’s car in Kogi State, nearly killing him, his wife and their three children.
Ejiofor said the incident occurred on August 1, 2026, while the family was returning to Abuja from Anambra State after attending his father-in-law’s burial.
According to him, the family was waiting at an Army checkpoint when a CNG truck with registration number FZE-431IA, allegedly belonging to Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd (SEEPCO), rammed into their 2018 Honda Accord.
The impact sent the car into the bush, trapping the family inside. Ejiofor said strangers eventually rescued them from the wreckage.
He alleged that personal belongings, including a laptop, phones and cash, were destroyed or stolen, while he personally paid for towing, medical treatment and other expenses.
Author questions truck’s release
Ejiofor also alleged that SEEPCO secured the release of the truck and its driver from Orakam Police Station while he was receiving treatment, leaving his damaged vehicle at the station.
He said his lawyer had been instructed to demand an explanation from the police.
The author further claimed that SEEPCO representatives initially admitted liability, alleging that the driver had been reckless. However, he said efforts to secure compensation had yielded no satisfactory outcome.
Ejiofor is demanding replacement of his vehicle, compensation for lost property and reimbursement of medical and other expenses.
He appealed to the company’s directors to intervene, warning that he would pursue the matter through lawful channels if no resolution was reached.
“I am prepared to pursue justice through every lawful channel available to me, for as long as it takes, whatever the cost,” he said
