Akpabio Salutes Nigerian Women’s Strength, Contributions

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has paid glowing tribute to women, especially Nigerian women, in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, applauding their resilience, sacrifices, and immense contributions to national development.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described women as the backbone of families and a driving force behind societal progress.
The Senate President noted that Nigerian women continue to demonstrate extraordinary strength and dedication in nurturing families, supporting communities, and contributing meaningfully to the country’s development. He said their unwavering commitment often forms the foundation upon which stable homes and thriving societies are built.
Reflecting on his personal life, Akpabio said he remains a proud beneficiary of the sacrifices and unconditional love of a woman—his mother—whose dedication, he said, shaped his journey and success in life.
“Today, I join millions across the globe in celebrating our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, colleagues, and friends whose daily efforts make the world a better place. Your commitment, compassion, and strength deserve recognition and appreciation,” he stated.
He emphasized that the role of women in raising responsible citizens and sustaining family values cannot be overstated, noting that their contributions extend beyond the home into leadership, entrepreneurship, and nation-building.
Akpabio congratulated Nigerian women for their perseverance and courage, saying their determination continues to inspire progress and development across various sectors of the nation.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Give and Gain,” the Senate President reiterated the commitment of the legislature to support policies and initiatives that promote the welfare and empowerment of women. He stressed the need for increased investment in women’s development and greater inclusion of women in economic and political decision-making processes.
He further assured that the 10th National Assembly would continue to champion legislative efforts aimed at strengthening opportunities for women and enhancing their participation in shaping the nation’s future.
Akpabio, on behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly, wished women across Nigeria a joyful and peaceful celebration, praying that their sacrifices and efforts would always be rewarded.
