Abubakar Malami, Son Remanded as Court Grants N200m Bail Each

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, bail in the sum of N200 million each over terrorism-related and illegal firearms charges filed by the Department of State Services.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who ruled on their bail applications, ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
The court directed each defendant to produce two sureties, one of whom must own landed property in Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja. The property titles are to be deposited with the Deputy Chief Registrar alongside valid international passports. The sureties must also file affidavits of means and submit two recent passport photographs.
Malami and his son were further ordered to surrender their international passports and passport photographs to the court.
The judge fixed March 4, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
The DSS had arraigned the duo on a five-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/63/2026, bordering on alleged abetment of terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
In count one, Malami is accused of knowingly abetting terrorism financing by allegedly refusing to prosecute certain suspects while serving as Attorney General.
Counts two to five allege that the defendants unlawfully possessed a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, 16 live Redstar AAA cartridges and 27 expended cartridges at their residence in Gesse Phase II, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The offences are said to contravene provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act, 2004.
