The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as **Moferewa Maiye** for allegedly impersonating a DSS officer and using a fake firearm to intimidate and extort motorists and commuters in Abuja.
Maiye was arrested late Wednesday at his hideout around **NITEL Junction, along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II**, following intelligence received by the Service.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was allegedly wearing a DSS tactical uniform and carrying a fake pistol.
A security source said Maiye had been using the uniform and fake weapon to intimidate motorists and commuters and collect money from them.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he was from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He allegedly claimed that his late brother, identified as Monday Maiye, was a DSS operative and that the uniform and other items found in his possession belonged to him.
Investigators are now trying to establish how long the suspect may have been involved in the alleged impersonation and extortion.
The DSS is also investigating how he obtained the Service’s uniform and other tactical items.
Maiye remains in DSS custody and is being interrogated as investigations continue.
The Service warned that impersonating security personnel to intimidate or defraud members of the public is a serious criminal act and said it would continue to take action against individuals involved in such activities.
