Again, Tinubu Brokers Peace Between Fubara, Wike Over Rivers Crisis

The protracted political crisis in Rivers State may be nearing resolution following a late-night intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to reports circulating on Monday, the President convened a closed-door meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other key political stakeholders from the state. While no official statement was issued after the meeting, sources familiar with the discussions said the engagement focused on restoring harmony within the state’s fractured political leadership.

In a move widely interpreted as symbolic, Governor Fubara was reportedly seen accompanying Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, shortly after the meeting. The gesture has fueled speculation that the talks yielded a breakthrough.

The report further claimed that Governor Fubara appealed directly to the former governor and pledged to uphold mutual respect going forward. Political observers describe the development as a major confidence-building step, capable of de-escalating tensions that have paralyzed governance and polarized the Rivers political space for months.

Although details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the President’s intervention is being hailed as a timely effort to stabilize the oil-rich state and prevent further political fallout.
