Rivers Chief Judge Turns Down Assembly’s Request to Probe Fubara

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has refused the Rivers State House of Assembly’s request to establish a seven-member panel to investigate alleged gross misconduct by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngọzi Odu.
In a letter dated January 20 to the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, Mr. Chibuzor-Amadi cited an interim injunction issued by a state high court as the basis for his decision.
The injunction, issued by the Rivers State High Court, restrains both the state assembly and the Chief Judge from proceeding with impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy. The court order came soon after the assembly formally requested the chief judge to set up a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct.
The development effectively halts the impeachment process, at least temporarily, and underscores the ongoing legal and political tussle surrounding the Fubara administration.
