By Ahmed Rufa’i, Dutse

Chief Imams of Juma’at and conventional mosques across Jigawa State have held a special prayer session for national peace, unity and divine guidance for Nigeria and its leaders.
The prayer session, organised under the aegis of the Association of Nigeria Imams, took place at the Dutse Emir’s Palace Juma’at Mosque, Garu, and drew hundreds of Islamic scholars and worshippers from across the state.
During the exercise, participants completed the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and offered special supplications for Nigeria, praying for wisdom, success and divine direction for President Bola Tinubu, state governors and other leaders, including Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, in addressing the country’s socio-economic and security challenges.
The prayers were led by the National Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Imams, Sheikh Muhammad Adam, and attended by the Jigawa State Secretary to the Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim; the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Mohammed Hamim Nuhu; Chairman of Dutse Local Government Council, Dr Sibo Abdullahi; as well as national and state executives of the association.
Speaking with journalists after the programme, Sheikh Adam said the initiative was part of a nationwide exercise tagged National Prayer for Peace, Unity and Divine Guidance, aimed at seeking Allah’s intervention in the affairs of the country.
He described the prayer session as timely, noting that Nigeria was at a critical stage that required strong leadership, collective resolve and divine guidance to overcome prevailing challenges.
“Nigeria is a nation blessed with abundant resources and resilient people. With prayer, humility and unity of purpose, the country can achieve peace, justice and prosperity,” he said.
Sheikh Adam explained that prayers were deliberately offered for both federal and state leaders, including President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, stressing that effective leadership at all levels remained key to improving security and social development.
He disclosed that the prayer programme, which commenced in Kano State on January 15, 2026, is being observed across the nineteen northern states, with the participation of Imams, traditional rulers and civil society representatives.
According to him, the Jigawa chapter hosted its session on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
The association also called on Nigerians of all faiths to join in prayers for national healing, unity and lasting peace, particularly in communities affected by conflict and insecurity.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Mohammed Hamim Nuhu, urged Imams to intensify sermons that promote peace, unity and moral conduct, describing them as essential to meaningful development.
The monarch cautioned against making disparaging comments about leaders, noting that such acts were prohibited in Islam, and encouraged citizens to remain prayerful and offer sincere supplications for the nation and its leadership.
He commended the organisers and participants for dedicating their time to the special prayer session.
