***Says APC’s time is up as PDP begins rebirth
By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has declared that the political mood across the state signals a strong desire for the party’s return to power in 2027, as it begins a comprehensive rebuilding process aimed at reclaiming Lugard House.
State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, made this known at the weekend during a strategic meeting with party members in Lokoja, where he announced the commencement of full-scale grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the people of Kogi are yearning for a return to what he described as responsible and people-centred governance, insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has exhausted its time in office.
“Let me be clear again: the time of the APC is over. They should begin to prepare their handover notes. Kogi people want the PDP back,” Gambo declared.
He said feedback from across the state indicates widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration and renewed appreciation for the PDP’s years in government.
“Our people have told us clearly that our years in office were rewarding. They are tired of waiting. Enough is enough. 2027 belongs to the PDP,” he said.
Describing the party’s current phase as one of renewal, Gambo likened the PDP’s journey to a natural cycle of rise, fall, and resurgence.
“We started from scratch in 1998, governed the state for 16 years, then went into decline. Today, we have reached the lowest point and are rising again. This is a rebirth—this is our renaissance,” he explained.
The PDP chairman said the party has undertaken deep self-reflection, learning from past mistakes while strengthening its internal structures to prevent a repeat.
He emphasized the need to balance elite influence with mass participation, stressing that electoral victory is ultimately driven by numbers.
“While elite voices matter, democracy is about the people. That is why we are deliberately returning power to women and youths, who form the backbone of our society,” Gambo said.
He added that the party has intensified grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder engagement across the state, expressing confidence that current political alignments favour the PDP ahead of 2027.
“Our strategy is simple: reconnect with the people. Godfatherism has no place in the new PDP. Internal democracy is back, and the people will decide,” he assured.
Gambo also disclosed that the party is already witnessing a wave of defections from rival parties.
“We have held meetings with former members who left for the APC and ADC. In the coming days, over 200 returning and new members will be formally received into the PDP,” he said.
