Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the release of individuals previously arrested during unrest in Ekpoma, stressing that the alleged kidnapping linked to the incident was fabricated and stage-managed to mislead the public and provoke ethnic tensions.
“The kidnapping they are talking about is fake. It was stage-managed. They were arranging to kidnap and release themselves. They even went as far as killing someone, which is the most painful part,” the governor said.
Governor Okpebholo condemned the burning of markets and destruction of property, reiterating that his administration will not tolerate anyone, regardless of political affiliation, using hoodlums to destabilize communities.
“I don’t care whether you are a politician or not. If you are using people to destroy our land and economy, we will go after you. We know ourselves, and we will bring those responsible to book to ensure justice for our people,” he added.
The governor emphasized that the release of the arrested individuals reflects a commitment to fairness and restoring community trust, while ensuring that those responsible for violence and unrest are held accountable.
“Our focus is on peace, justice, and protecting innocent citizens. We will continue to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of our communities,” Governor Okpebholo said.
With this move, the administration seeks to calm tensions, promote dialogue, and reassure residents that Edo State remains committed to law, order, and social harmony.
