Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Monday flagged off the construction of the 12-kilometre Takum–Lissam road, describing the project as a concrete expression of his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-oriented development.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Lissam, the governor attributed his emergence to divine grace and the goodwill of the people, stressing that his government exists solely to serve the public interest.
“With God, all things are possible. God touched the hearts of the people to entrust me with this responsibility,” Kefas said, assuring residents that his administration would continue to prioritise projects that have direct impact on livelihoods and economic growth.
He explained that his approach to governance is anchored on careful planning, wide consultations and attentive listening to the needs and concerns of citizens before major decisions are taken.
Reflecting on the state of Taraba at the time he assumed office, Governor Kefas recalled that the state was sharply divided along religious and ethnic lines, warning that such divisions undermine development.
“A divided people cannot make meaningful progress,” he said, adding that fostering unity, peace and security remains central to his administration’s agenda.
The governor emphasised that the protection of lives and property is his foremost responsibility, noting that security continues to receive top priority as a foundation for sustainable development. He urged residents to continue praying for the success of his administration and pledged not to be distracted from the task of delivering good governance.
Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Moseh Luka, said the Ussa–Takum axis had suffered prolonged neglect under previous administrations, leading to severe hardship for road users. He expressed confidence that the intervention by Governor Kefas would significantly ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities across the area.
Also speaking, Sunny Chene, who represented WE China, the construction firm handling the project, thanked the Taraba State Government for the confidence reposed in the company. He disclosed that WE China had previously executed road projects in Wukari and Gassol Local Government Areas.
Chene assured the government and host communities of quality delivery, timely completion, and the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility throughout the duration of the project.
