The Kogi State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing security operations, confirming that scores of bandits have been neutralised while several criminal networks have been dismantled across forested areas of the state.
The State Command Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Ovye Aya in a statement indicated that the success followed sustained joint operations involving the Nigeria Police Force and the military, with critical support from the Nigeria Police Force Airwing, which deployed precision airstrikes against identified bandit hideouts.
Explaining furthet he said the coordinated onslaught forced many armed criminals to flee their enclaves, effectively dislodging long-established networks that had operated within Kogi’s forests and posed serious threats to communities and travellers.
Describing the operation as highly strategic and professionally executed, the police said the offensive remains ongoing, with security forces maintaining pressure on fleeing elements to prevent regrouping or reprisal attacks.
The command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report anyone seen with gunshot wounds, suspicious injuries, or unusual behaviour to the nearest police station, noting that such individuals may be fleeing suspects.
Residents were also encouraged to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence on the movement or presence of criminal elements within their neighbourhoods.
“Security is a shared responsibility,” the police said, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to sustaining the gains recorded so far and ensuring lasting peace across the state.
