The Senate Committee on Army has expressed deep sadness over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, describing his passing as a painful loss to the nation and the military community.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Chairman of the Committee, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the committee recalled that the retired senior military officer was abducted alongside his wife on May 30, 2026, along the Katsina–Matazu road.
The committee noted that General Abubakar served Nigeria with distinction during his military career and remained actively engaged in national security discussions even after retirement. It described him as a dedicated patriot whose contributions to the country’s defence and security architecture would be remembered.
The lawmakers extended condolences to the family of the late officer, the Nigerian Army, the people of Batsari Local Government Area, and residents of Katsina State over the loss.
The committee prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to grant his loved ones the strength to bear the bereavement.
It also reiterated its commitment to working with the executive arm of government and security agencies to improve measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the country. The committee further commended security personnel for their continued sacrifices in the fight against insecurity and urged Nigerians to remain united as efforts to restore peace and stability continue.
