HURIWA Mourns Slain FRSC Officers, Seeks Release of Pupils

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned the killing of three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by suspected terrorists and bandits in Kebbi State, describing the attack as a direct assault on public servants and a disturbing reflection of the country’s worsening security situation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the rights group expressed outrage over the deaths of Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistant Umar Aliyu, Senior Road Marshal Assistant Ezra Manu Gona, and Road Marshal Assistant I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir, who were reportedly killed while carrying out official duties along the Tsamiya–Illo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
HURIWA said the officers paid the supreme price in service to the nation and called on security agencies to immediately intensify efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
“The murder of these dedicated officers is an affront to the authority of the Nigerian state and a tragic reminder of the growing threat posed by terrorists, bandits, and other violent criminal elements,” the group stated.
The association extended condolences to the families of the slain officers, the leadership of the FRSC, and the government and people of Kebbi State.
It urged the military, police, intelligence agencies, and other security institutions to strengthen coordinated operations against criminal groups operating across the country.
HURIWA also commended security agencies for the successful rescue of the younger sister of a former Minister of Power and her twin sons from kidnappers, describing the operation as evidence that intelligence-driven and coordinated security strategies can yield positive results.
According to the group, the rescue should serve as motivation for security forces to intensify efforts towards securing the freedom of other victims still being held captive by kidnappers and terrorists.
The organisation expressed particular concern over the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State, calling for urgent action to secure their safe release.
HURIWA appealed to security authorities to deploy all available resources to rescue the victims, warning that prolonged captivity could expose them to severe physical, emotional, and psychological trauma.
The group stressed that the safety of the abducted children and teachers should be treated as a national priority, urging the Federal Government and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent any harm from coming to them.
It further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to demonstrate greater resolve in tackling insecurity and defeating terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other violent non-state actors threatening national stability.
HURIWA maintained that Nigeria must not surrender any part of its territory or citizens to criminal elements, insisting that decisive and sustained security operations remain critical to restoring public confidence and safeguarding lives across the country.
