**Describes Him as Pride of the Accountancy Profession

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his professionalism, integrity, and adherence to sound financial management principles, describing him as “a pride of the accountancy profession.”

The President gave the commendation when he received a joint delegation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) at the State House, Abuja, following the 55th Annual Accountants’ Conference.

The delegation, led by ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, and IFAC President, Mr. Jean Bouquot, visited the President to reaffirm their commitment to accountability, transparency, and national development.

President Tinubu praised members of the accounting profession for their vital contributions to Nigeria’s economic reforms and fiscal discipline, noting that accountants remain essential to the nation’s drive toward sustainable growth.

“The accountancy profession represents transparency and information disclosure. A balance sheet must be definite, sure, and sustainable. I have confidence in the profession and I’m proud of the many great minds working with us — including the Governors of Kogi and Jigawa, and the Accountant-General of the Federation — who are transforming theory into practice,” he said.

He commended Governor Ododo, a Fellow of ICAN, for exemplifying the profession’s core values of transparency, discipline, and prudent financial management in governance.

The President also lauded ICAN for its partnership with international bodies such as IFAC and its active contribution to Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal and tax reforms.

“We appreciate ICAN’s support through its members serving on key government committees, including the Tax and Fiscal Policy Reform Committee, whose work is helping to place Nigeria on a path of economic progress,” the President added.

President Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would give due attention to ICAN’s proposed amendment to its establishment Act, emphasizing that “accountability is the question, and transparency will be the answer to many of our problems.”

He further urged the Institute to continue upholding high professional standards that strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s financial systems while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies that promote transparency and efficient resource management.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, ICAN Vice President Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, Past President Chief Felix Kolawole Bajomo, and ICAN Registrar/Chief Executive Dr. Lanre Olasunkanmi.
