President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his respect for religious freedom, saying he has never attempted to convert his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, from Christianity to Islam.

Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday in Jos at the funeral service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

“I inherited Islam from my family, but my wife is a pastor who prays for me always. I have never sought to convince or convert her. I believe strongly in the freedom of religion,” the president said.

Calling for unity, he urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious divides:
“We serve the same Almighty God and will answer to Him for our deeds. What matters most is love for one another and living together as one people.”

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, thanked the president for attending despite his busy schedule. He acknowledged insecurity as the state’s biggest challenge but assured that his administration is working to strengthen peace and coexistence.

He also praised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for reaching out to displaced women and children in Plateau.

In his tribute, Prof. Yilwatda described his late mother as a devoted and selfless woman.
“She was strong, loyal and humble, always sharing whatever she had with neighbors. That is the woman we celebrate today,” he said, while appreciating Nigerians for standing by his family in their grief.
