President Bola Tinubu on Friday failed to make a scheduled visit to Abia State, with Minister of Works David Umahi explaining that his absence was due to the funeral of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
Tinubu had been expected in Abia to commission a series of projects completed by Governor Alex Otti, but instead sent Umahi to represent him. The development sparked reactions from opposition supporters, who took to social media to celebrate the President’s no-show.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Umahi assured residents that Tinubu’s visit had only been postponed.
“The President asked me to let you know that he will be with you later this year, sometime in December. He would have been here himself but unfortunately, our National Chairman lost his mother, who is being buried tomorrow, and it is right that the President is there,” Umahi said.
In his address delivered through Umahi, Tinubu praised Otti’s administration for its strides in infrastructure renewal, describing the completed projects as evidence of “recovering Abia State.”
The projects include Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, Ajiwe Street, Ndoki Road, Peoples Road, Gabriel Nwosu Road, Nkoro Road, Umuatako Road, and the refurbished Michael Okpara Auditorium.
