Nasarawa United on Sunday secured their first win of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a 1–0 victory over Abia Warriors at the Lafia City Stadium.
The decisive moment came in the 10th minute when Ugochukwu Leonard struck early to put the Solid Miners ahead, a lead they held on to despite sustained pressure from the visitors in the second half.

The win comes after Nasarawa United’s opening day defeat to Niger Tornadoes at the Kwara State Sports Complex.
Speaking after the match, Nasarawa United’s Technical Adviser, Mangut Mbwas, praised his players for taking their early chances and commended Abia Warriors for their resilience.
“I am very excited for the three points picked at home. We created good chances early, and it paid off, but credit to Abia Warriors who showed determination and did not allow us score again,” he said.
Abia Warriors’ Head Coach also congratulated the hosts, acknowledging that his side were slow to settle into the game.
“Nasarawa United took their chances in the first half when my players were still adjusting to the turf. It was not a bad game for both sides, and officiating was fair,” he said.
Goal scorer Leonard expressed delight at opening his account for the season, dedicating the goal to his teammates, coaches, supporters, and stakeholders.
“This is just the beginning. I will do my best to score more goals for the team,” he said.
Abia Warriors will now turn their focus to their next NPFL fixtures before resuming their continental campaign.
