Nigeria’s political and traditional leaders have joined the people of Kogi State in mourning the passing of Alhaji Ahmed MomohSani Alabi, father of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who died on Monday at the age of 83.

From the Presidency to the grassroots, the condolences spoke not just of a man’s death, but of a life that shaped both family and community. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the loss as “deeply painful,” urging the governor to take solace in his father’s enduring legacy of humility, discipline, and service.

Vice President Kashim Shettima echoed those sentiments, calling Alhaji Alabi “a devout Muslim and community figure whose values continue to manifest in Governor Ododo’s leadership.” He noted the unique weight of losing a parent while serving in high office, but expressed confidence that the patriarch’s memory would remain a guiding force.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, praised the deceased as a community leader who nurtured his son with values that now define his public service. Similarly, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the South-West Governors’ Forum paid glowing tributes, while state governors, lawmakers, and traditional rulers from across the country also offered sympathies.

For Governor Ododo, the outpouring of grief and solidarity has been a source of strength. In his message of appreciation, he thanked President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, fellow governors, and Nigerians at large for standing with his family. He pledged to honour his father’s memory by deepening his commitment to service and leadership.

The late Alhaji Ahmed MomohSani Alabi, respected for his devotion to faith and community, leaves behind a legacy that leaders say will continue to inspire the people of Kogi and beyond.
