For United States–based film director Taiwo Oduala, life’s greatest calling is not fame or fortune — it is service to God and humanity. And he believes Africa’s unsung heroes deserve the spotlight.

Speaking in Lokoja, Oduala praised the extraordinary humanitarian work being carried out by philanthropists and corporate bodies for Africa’s less privileged. He said their selflessness proves that leadership is about impact, not titles.

Oduala’s conviction led him to create the AFRO Awards, an international celebration held annually in Los Angeles to recognize individuals and organizations whose lives reflect humanitarian values and global excellence.

Since its launch, the AFRO Awards has honored more than 5,000 changemakers across Africa and America, spotlighting leaders in philanthropy, arts, entertainment, and community service. The debut edition was staged on November 6, 2022, at Regal LA Live.

Now entering its 4th edition on October 25, 2025, the AFRO Awards promises not only an evening of glitz and glamour but also a reaffirmation that compassion, unity, and cultural pride remain the hallmarks of true greatness.

For Oduala, the red carpet is merely a platform — the real prize is the reminder that those who lift others are the ones who truly stand tallest.
