In a solemn but heartfelt ceremony, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday presented cheques totaling ₦37.28 million to the families of officers who lost their lives in active service.
    Police Public Relations Officer
DSP Timfon John, in a statement indicated that the cheques, handed out by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, were issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, under the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes. A total of 33 families benefitted from the initiative.

Describing the gesture as both a duty and a tribute, CP Azare reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to honouring its heroes, stating:

“These officers made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. Though they are gone, their courage and service will never be forgotten. This support is a testament to the IGP’s unwavering concern for the welfare of officers and their families.”

The Commissioner encouraged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the funds and reminded them that they remain a part of the larger police family.

The presentation underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its welfare programmes and provide meaningful support to the families left behind by fallen officers.
