Obidient Movement Unveils Governance Watch to Promote Accountability and Civic Participation

The Obidient Movement has launched a new civic engagement initiative titled Governance Watch, aimed at boosting political awareness, enhancing citizen participation, and driving policy-focused dialogue across Nigeria.

Announcing the platform on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, described Governance Watch as a unifying and solutions-oriented publication designed to monitor government performance, share reform ideas, and promote transparent leadership.

“This is more than a newsletter—it’s a national platform for civic reawakening,” Dr. Tanko stated. “We are building a new consciousness rooted in integrity, competence, compassion, and people-first development.”

The digital-first publication is the movement’s first official media product and will circulate widely through online platforms and grassroots networks. It will focus on issues such as public accountability, electoral reform, civic education, and inclusive policymaking.

Dr. Tanko praised the Director of Strategic Communications and Media, Nana Kazaure, and her team for successfully producing the first edition, calling it a “milestone in the movement’s history.”

Nana Kazaure noted that Governance Watch would give voice to everyday Nigerians and inspire them to contribute actively to nation-building. “We want this to be a space where citizens reflect, share, and take action. Everyone is welcome to join the conversation,” she said.

The launch comes amid rising public demand for transparency, good governance, and citizen-led reform efforts. The Obidient Movement—born out of the 2022 political wave supporting Peter Obi—continues to push for a more accountable and inclusive political culture in Nigeria.

Dr. Tanko ended his remarks by reaffirming the group’s mission: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
