Jigawa Governor Launches “JigawaUNITE” to Transform Basic Education

By Ahmed Rufa’i, Dutse

The Jigawa State Government has launched a bold new education reform initiative, JigawaUNITE—Jigawa State Unified New Improvement of Teaching and Education—in partnership with education solutions provider, NewGlobe.
The programme aims to revolutionize public primary education through teacher training, digital learning tools, and data-driven instruction.

The initiative kicked off with the training of 1,690 public school teachers and head teachers in Dutse, focusing on effective classroom management, learner engagement, and digital pedagogy.

Speaking at the launch, Acting Managing Director of JigawaUNITE, Mr. Olusanya Omojola, said the programme’s mission is “to deliver dramatic improvements in learning outcomes in government schools for all children across Jigawa State.”

The reform is being implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and NewGlobe, and will be overseen by the Ministry of Basic Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

According to Mr. Omojola, JigawaUNITE is powered by a globally proven model already deployed in Rwanda, Kenya, Liberia, and other Nigerian states. “It combines real-time classroom data, teacher coaching, and structured pedagogy to improve foundational literacy and numeracy,” he explained.

The first training wave in Dutse has concluded, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Gumel and Hadejia. Participants are equipped with digital tablets loaded with structured lesson plans and performance-tracking software to enhance instruction delivery across classrooms.

Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, praised the initiative, calling teachers “the champions of change” and stating that the reforms are meant to empower them to lead the next generation.

Also speaking, SUBEB Secretary, Malam Bello Ballama, said: “JigawaUNITE is not a one-time intervention. It is a long-term investment in our children’s future.”

He emphasized the state’s commitment to ensuring all teachers are fully trained and supported to deliver consistent, high-quality instruction.

The government expressed optimism that the months ahead will witness more energized classrooms, more confident teachers, and better learning outcomes. JigawaUNITE, they said, is not just a programme—it is a promise to give every child in Jigawa access to quality education powered by modern tools and visionary leadership.
