In the Spirit of Easter, Obi Cries Out: “Nigeria Needs Leaders Who Feel Our Pain”

As millions of Christians across Nigeria gather to celebrate Easter, the resurrection of hope, mercy, and sacrifice, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, has sent a soul-stirring message: Nigeria is bleeding for lack of compassionate leadership.

In a heartfelt statement on Saturday, Obi urged Nigerians to use the Easter season, which commemorates Christ’s ultimate act of selflessness, to cry out in prayer for leaders who feel, think, and act with the people at heart.
“There is no better time than Easter to reflect on the kind of leadership Nigeria truly needs,” Obi said. “We need leaders who are moved by the people’s struggles, who consider the consequences of every policy and action on ordinary citizens.”
His message was not just spiritual — it was a mirror held up to the soul of a wounded nation.
With insecurity growing and economic pressure suffocating households, Obi lamented what he called a “visible abdication of responsibility” by the current crop of leaders, whom he described as disconnected from the realities of those they govern.
“What we see today is not just a failure of governance, but a failure of empathy. Nigeria is too blessed to be this broken,” Obi said.
Yet, in the same breath, he ignited hope, the very essence of Easter. He called on Nigerians, especially his loyal Obidient supporters across the world, to refuse despair, reminding them that “our Redeemer lives, and a New Nigeria is not a fantasy, it’s a future worth fighting for.”
This Easter, Peter Obi is not just asking for celebration, he’s calling for soul-searching, for a national rebirth, and for leaders who serve not with power, but with purpose.
