*** Over 200 Members, Including Youth Leader, Defect to NNPP in Rano

In a dramatic political shift, over 200 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the party’s youth leader and key executives from Rurum Tsohon Gari Ward, have defected en masse to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Rano Local Government Area.
This wave of defections, led by the APC Youth Leader Yusuf Usman Said Rurum, marks a significant realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
Zonal Information Officer, Rano Local Government Area, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement made available to the National Update on Sunday indicated that the defectors cited widespread disenchantment with the APC’s leadership and what they described as “anti-people economic policies that have deepened poverty and hardship across the country.”
“We are thrilled to join the NNPP, a party that shares our vision for a better Nigeria,” said Musa Isa Rurum Tsohon Gari, one of the lead defectors. “The NNPP is genuinely committed to the welfare of our people and will ensure our voices are heard.”
Welcoming the new members, Chairman of Rano Local Government Council, Malam Naziru Yau, alongside Hon. Ibrahim Malami, member representing Rano in the Kano State House of Assembly, Professor Dahiru Sani, and other NNPP leaders, described the defection as a clear signal of the people’s trust in the party’s grassroots-driven vision.
The defectors declared their admiration for the Kwankwasiyya ideology, the guiding principle of the NNPP, which they believe embodies integrity, service, and people-first governance.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Yusuf Usman Said Rurum, praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Malam Naziru Yau for their exemplary leadership. He also credited Professor Dahiru Sani for playing a key role in facilitating their transition to the NNPP.
In his remarks, Malam Naziru Yau called on the new members to fully integrate into the party’s structure and contribute to the NNPP’s mission of development, inclusivity, and victory in 2027. “The Kwankwasiyya movement is built on trust, hard work, and commitment. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, united party that delivers for the people,” he said.
The NNPP in Rano has pledged to remain focused on its pro-people agenda while continuing to welcome individuals and groups who are committed to a better Nigeria.
