***Inaugurates Steering Committee for Full Implementation
In a bold move to drive grassroots development, Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has earmarked N9.864b annually for projects in the state’s 274 political wards.
This initiative is part of a deliberate effort to bring development directly to local communities.
To ensure the successful implementation of this program, Governor Bago has inaugurated a Steering Committee tasked with overseeing the execution of Ward Development Projects.
The governor emphasized that this initiative prioritizes rural development, marking a significant milestone for the people of Niger State.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Council Chamber, Government House, Minna, Governor Bago revealed that each ward will receive N3m monthly to fund projects that address the specific needs of residents.
He described the initiative as “historic” and a long-awaited step toward decentralized development.
The Steering Committee at the state level will oversee the formation of Local Government Committees, which will, in turn, establish Ward Committees.
The composition of these committees will vary across wards, with a structured template ensuring the inclusion of key stakeholders.
Governor Bago urged committee members to conduct a thorough needs assessment in their respective wards to identify and prioritize critical projects in sectors such as health, education, sanitation, water supply, security, and infrastructure.
He emphasized the importance of engaging local professionals for project execution, ensuring community participation and economic empowerment.
While N3m per ward serves as the baseline allocation, Governor Bago noted that additional funding will come from interrelated agencies, including Local Government Area Councils, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), healthcare centers, and the Ministries of Environment and Education.
He stressed the need for proper coordination to ensure equitable project distribution across the state.
The newly inaugurated State Steering Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Phalalu Bako Mohammed, who expressed gratitude to the governor for entrusting them with this responsibility. He assured that the committee would work diligently to ensure transparency, accountability, and the effective use of funds.

The committee will immediately begin engaging citizens, conducting sensitization programs, and instituting monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the proper execution of projects.
