KONGONET Calls for Inclusive Governance as Ododo Marks One Year in Office

As Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo celebrates one year in office, the Kogi Non-Governmental Organizations Network (KONGONET) has urged him to deepen citizen engagement and address critical development challenges to sustain the progress recorded so far.

In a congratulatory statement signed by its Chairperson, Amb. Idris Ozovehe Muraina, KONGONET praised the administration’s strides in civil servant welfare, road infrastructure, agriculture, and the adoption of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). However, the group emphasized that more could be done to address transparency issues and ensure robust citizen participation in governance.

“Your leadership has brought noticeable improvements, particularly in agriculture, where increased expenditures have demonstrated a commitment to food security. However, there is a pressing need for broader public engagement through town hall meetings to keep citizens informed and address their concerns directly,” Muraina said.

KONGONET highlighted key areas requiring urgent attention, including the transparency surrounding the N22 billion palliative funds, escalating waste management issues in Lokoja, and a persistent housing deficit across the state.

The group also appealed for relief on the N508,000 tuition fees imposed on medical students, urging the administration to ease the financial burden on families amidst economic hardships.

Muraina commended Governor Ododo for his swift action in addressing the controversial Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) requirement for tertiary institution registration but called for sustained efforts to bridge gaps in water supply, transport systems, and social service delivery.

“As we reflect on your achievements, we encourage your administration to foster a collaborative environment that includes all stakeholders and strengthens trust between the government and the people. Together, we can achieve the Kogi State we all envision,” Muraina concluded.
