The Niger State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, led by Executive Director Dr. Bako Mohammed, has announced its refusal to comply with a recent Federal High Court ruling that prohibits the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) from stopping vehicles on the road.

Speaking at a press conference in Minna, Dr. Bako asserted that the ruling does not apply to Niger State, citing the state governor’s constitutional authority to enact laws governing vehicular operations within the state.
“We will stay on the road,” he declared, indicating that VIO operations will continue as normal.

The Federal High Court ruling, issued by Justice Nkeonye Evelyn Maha, determined that the VIO lacks the legal authority to stop vehicles, confiscate them, or impose fines on drivers.

Dr. Bako also announced an upcoming National Conference on Standardization and Harmonization of Vehicle Testing and Licensing, scheduled to take place in Niger State. The conference is aimed to establish consistent policies and procedures for vehicle testing and licensing across the country, enhancing safety and security in road traffic management.
