The Citizens Advocacy for Social & Economic Rights (CASER) has threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against the Minister of Transportation or anyone who is allegedly defying a Court order.
The court order had barred all parties in the process of appointing a company to operate the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) in Nigeria from taking any further action.
The Executive Director of CASER Mr. Frank Tietie reminded parties to the issue that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had granted an Injunction restraining the Minister of Transport Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the Bureau of Public Procurement BPP and the Attorney General of the Federation from taking any further steps towards nominating any company or entity to be operators of the International Cargo Tracking Note ICTN in Nigeria.
According to him, the  injunction also barred two companies, MedTech Scientific Ltd and Rozi International Ltd which had been appointed by the government from operating the ICTN in Nigeria.
Mr. Tietie explained that it amounts to contempt of Court for discussions to continue after the Court had given an injuction.
According to him, the order granted by justice Diyuu Okorowo followed  the concerns raised by CASER about the alleged malfeasance in the ongoing process of appointing an implementing agents for the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) in Nigeria.
According to CASER , there are serious concerns for Nigeria’s internal security following the massive inflow of small arms and light weapons through Nigerian sea ports due to ineffective cargo tracking.
