Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who rose through the state’s public service to lead it for eight years, has died at the age of 70.
Uduaghan reportedly died on Monday, October 19, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family and signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan.
His political journey took him from the Ministry of Health to the Delta State Government House. He served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 before becoming Secretary to the State Government, a position he held until 2007.

That same year, he became governor, serving two consecutive terms until 2015. His administration pursued human and infrastructural development projects across Delta State.
Announcing his death, the family described him as a source of strength and a father figure whose influence extended beyond his immediate relatives.
“He was a source of strength, a father figure, a beloved brother and uncle, and a respected elder. We will deeply miss his presence and forever cherish the memories and legacy he leaves behind,” the family said.
The family also expressed gratitude for his life and service, while praying for comfort for relatives, friends, associates and others mourning his passing.
“Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched,” the statement added.
