NASSI Targets Global Markets for Nigerian Small Businesses

The push to make Nigerian businesses competitive in global markets will take centre stage as the Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) partners Zamkah Technologies to prepare small entrepreneurs for expansion beyond the domestic economy.
The initiative will feature at NASSI’s 35th National Convention, scheduled for December 1, 2026, in Abuja, where entrepreneurs will explore business partnerships, capacity building and strategies for sustainable growth.
NASSI National President, Chief Solomon Daniel Vongfa, said the convention was designed to help small business owners exchange ideas, build strategic alliances and identify opportunities to grow their enterprises into globally competitive brands.
He said Nigeria’s economic strength depended partly on its ability to expand domestic production, improve product quality and reduce excessive dependence on government.
According to Vongfa, the convention would also expose entrepreneurs to training programmes, workshops and business seminars aimed at improving their operations and preparing their workforce for greater competition.
He noted that supportive government policies and access to financing remained critical to helping small businesses survive, expand and compete effectively.
“As an organisation with the key function of advocating government policies that make it easier to run a small business in Nigeria, the convention would explore possible avenues for business models that suit businesses and make them competitive,” he said.
Founded in 1978, NASSI promotes micro, small and medium-scale enterprises across Nigeria. The association also works to improve access to finance through partnerships with institutions, including the Bank of Industry.
Vongfa said NASSI would continue to use trade fairs and exhibitions to showcase locally made products, connect businesses with potential buyers and create opportunities for market expansion.
He added that increasing the presence of Nigerian products in local and international markets required more than policy statements. Entrepreneurs, he said, needed financing, improved production capacity, quality products and the right business knowledge.
“We are determined to see that Nigeria remains not only the giant of Africa on paper but in reality,” he said.
The convention is expected to provide a platform for discussions on how stronger local industries and better-equipped entrepreneurs can contribute to economic growth and position Nigerian businesses for international opportunities.
