The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, is taking its 2027 campaign preparations beyond Nigeria, with plans to formally launch its United Kingdom chapter in the presence of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, disclosed this during a meeting with NDC members and Nigerian community representatives in London on Saturday.
Dickson said he would return to the UK later in the year alongside Obi, Kwankwaso and other senior party leaders for the formal launch of the NDC-UK Chapter.
The meeting, held at the London Park Lane Hilton Hotel, was part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its international structures and engage Nigerians abroad ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement by NDC-UK Publicity Secretary, Boniokoye Imegwu, the meeting also provided an opportunity for the UK chapter to receive updates on the party’s preparations for the elections.
Dickson had travelled to London from the Netherlands, where he inaugurated the NDC Netherlands Chapter.
Addressing the gathering, the former Bayelsa State governor called on institutions and officials responsible for the 2027 elections to uphold integrity, fairness and responsibility in the conduct of the polls.
He also expressed confidence in the NDC leadership and its presidential ticket.
NDC-UK Country Chairman, Princewill Urum, reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to the party, commending Dickson for his leadership and pledging continued support for its programmes and activities.
The meeting also attracted the leader of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, COPDEM, a Nigerian and global political network.
The COPDEM leader commended the NDC’s direction and said the organisation was prepared to deploy its available resources and personnel to initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic participation and promoting a credible electoral process.
The planned UK launch comes as the NDC continues to expand its structures outside Nigeria and deepen engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora ahead of the 2027 elections.
Participants at the London meeting reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s expansion and its planned electoral activities.
