The race for the Jigawa South-West Senatorial seat has begun to gather momentum as Accord Party candidate, Comrade Aminu Aminu, launched his 2027 campaign in his hometown of Sara, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Aminu’s campaign launch signals his entry into the contest for the National Assembly seat, with the former student leader seeking to convert years of grassroots activism, youth mobilisation and political organisation into electoral support across the senatorial district.
Addressing supporters at Sara, Aminu placed youth empowerment, education, employment, community development and accountable representation at the centre of his campaign message.
The candidate is presenting his background in student unionism and civil society advocacy as part of his political experience, having held several leadership positions at Bayero University Kano and within the National Association of Nigerian Students.
He later moved into partisan politics, participating in major presidential campaign structures, including the Goodluck/Sambo 2015, Buhari/Osinbajo 2019 and Tinubu/Shettima 2023 campaigns. In the 2023 campaign, he served as Director of Contact and Mobilisation.
A Political Scientist and journalist, Aminu holds degrees in Political Science and Public Policy and Administration from Bayero University Kano and the Federal University Dutse.
He has also served as Treasurer of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Jigawa State Council, and currently heads the Youth and Civil Society Advocacy for Development.
But the 2027 race presents a new test for the former student activist: turning years of organising and advocacy into a winning electoral campaign across Jigawa South-West.
From Sara, Aminu has now begun that effort, taking the Accord platform to the grassroots as the contest for the senatorial seat unfolds.
