Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has renewed his call for Nigeria to abandon its consumption-driven economic model, saying production and job creation must become central to the country’s development.
Obi spoke on Thursday during his visit to Delta State for the launch of the NDC campaign office in Asaba.
The NDC candidate joined the party’s Delta governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, other candidates, party leaders and supporters at the event, using the gathering to push the party’s message of economic transformation.
Obi said Nigeria could not make meaningful progress without unity and security, alongside deliberate efforts to increase domestic production and create jobs.
He said moving the country from consumption to production would help create opportunities for Nigerians and provide a pathway out of poverty.
The former Anambra State governor also commended Iyovwaye, other party leaders and members in Delta for their commitment to the party, while appreciating residents of the state for the reception given to him.
The visit formed part of Obi’s wider engagement with NDC structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reiterating his campaign message, Obi said, **“A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK.”**
