Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has sacked one of his aides after the lawmaker’s office took exception to social media posts calling for the removal of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The aide, Umar Alhassan, popularly known as King Indara, was removed from his position as Special Legislative Assistant in Barau’s office with effect from September 18.
Barau’s media aide, Shitu Madaki Kunchi, said the dismissal followed what the Deputy Senate President described as “indiscipline and disrespect” after Alhassan published posts bearing the phrase “Abba Must Go.”
The action has brought the increasingly visible political differences surrounding Kano politics into focus, particularly as the 2027 political cycle approaches.
Barau, who represents Kano North, reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress and prayed for the success of the party at all levels.
His sacked aide, however, subsequently declared on Facebook that Kano remained for former Kano governor and political leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, while also stating that he remained a member of the APC.
The contrasting positions have added a political dimension to what Barau’s office described primarily as a matter of discipline.
In announcing the dismissal, Barau said the posts were inconsistent with the standards of respect and decorum expected from his office and contrary to the principles of the APC.
“Accordingly, we announce his removal from the position of Special Legislative Assistant (SLA) in the office of the Deputy Senate President as of September 18, 2026,” the statement said.
Alhassan is also known as a popular Kano TikToker and has maintained an active presence on social media.
The controversy centres on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose political relationship with Kwankwaso has remained a significant feature of Kano’s political landscape.
The latest development therefore places a former aide to one of the state’s senior APC figures in an unusual position: removed from a federal legislative office over an anti-governor slogan while publicly reaffirming membership of the same ruling party and support for Kwankwaso.
Barau has not indicated that Alhassan was removed from the APC itself.
The dismissal was specifically from his position in the Deputy Senate President’s office.
The development comes as political alignments across Kano continue to attract attention ahead of the 2027 elections.
