The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign in Jigawa State is expanding into a sprawling statewide political network, with former national officeholders, lawmakers, party leaders and grassroots politicians assigned specific roles ahead of the 2027 election.
The structure approved for PDP governorship candidate Mustapha Sule Lamido cuts across strategy, security, finance, publicity, research, youth and women mobilisation, with additional coordinating committees created for the three senatorial zones and local government areas.
One of the most prominent appointments is that of former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, as chairman of the campaign’s Security Committee.
Former minister Nuraddeen Mohammed will chair the Strategy and Mobilisation Committee, while other committees are headed by figures including Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, Ambassador Ibrahim Musa Kazaure and Yusuf Saleh Dunari.
The campaign’s financial operations will be overseen by Aminu Wada Abubakar, while Umar Kyari heads the Media and Publicity Committee.
Dr Umar Birniwa will lead the Planning, Research, Organisation, Documentation and Venue Committee, with separate structures established for youth and support groups as well as women mobilisation.
The breadth of the arrangement is reflected in the three senatorial coordinating committees.
In the Northwest, Ambassador Ibrahim Musa Kazaure is chairman; Senator Mustapha Khabeeb heads the Central zone; while Yusuf Saleh Dunari leads the Northeast committee.
The committees will draw membership from party executives, National and State Assembly candidates, local government chairmen, youth and women leaders, campaign council members and former political office holders.
The campaign structure also pushes the organisation down to the local government level.
Under the proposed arrangement, each local government campaign committee will include candidates, party executives, ward chairmen and secretaries, youth and women leaders, former elected and appointed officials and other recognised party stakeholders.
Representatives of religious scholars, businessmen, traditional leaders, academia and support groups are also to be incorporated.
The arrangement means that the PDP campaign is being organised around both political hierarchy and functional responsibilities, with the state campaign leadership connected to senatorial zones, local governments and wards.
The appointments take immediate effect, according to a public notice signed by Hon. Nasir Mohammed, Campaign Secretary, on behalf of the Director-General.
The notice said the date for the formal inauguration of the committees would be announced later.
The development provides the clearest indication so far of the PDP campaign’s intended organisational reach in Jigawa, as the party begins to translate its governorship bid into a state-wide mobilisation structure.
