The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is reaching out to West African youths with a novel approach to governance, especially as the 2027 general election approaches. Their focus is on citizens’ welfare, accountability, youth inclusion, and national development.
During a meeting in Abuja, the SDP emphasized its commitment to these priorities. The meeting featured the Confederation of West African Youths visiting the SDP national secretariat.
Senator Ugochukwu Uba, SDP Vice National Chairman, spoke on the party’s program, which aligns with Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution. This chapter highlights the welfare and security of citizens. He pointed out that despite Nigeria’s rich resources, development has lagged due to poor governance.
Uba stressed that the SDP aims to reshape Nigeria’s political culture through this new governance model. The rising interest of young Nigerians in the SDP indicates significant engagement with these ideas.
Ambassador Israel Akinola, Regional President of the Confederation of West African Youths, advocated for increased youth participation in governance. He highlighted the economic challenges young Nigerians face, including unemployment and limited opportunities.
Akinola further emphasized the need for accountability and impactful policies. He urged greater collaboration between government and private sectors to expand opportunities for the youth.
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the SDP presidential candidate, encouraged youths to extend their political involvement beyond party meetings. He urged them to engage with communities and develop dialogues on important issues.
Adebayo highlighted the crucial role of grassroots political participation. The meeting concluded with discussions on governance, economic opportunities, and Nigeria’s developmental hurdles.
