A former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress may be losing its political grip on the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adedayo, who served as council chairman under the APC administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party was gaining ground and could spring a major upset at the poll.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adedayo declared that “APC is gone in Ogun State,” arguing that the party had allegedly lost touch with voters across the state’s 20 local government areas.
He said the emerging political realignment was not limited to opposition supporters, claiming that some APC members and political stakeholders were already moving towards the PDP.
Adedayo consequently predicted victory for PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu over the APC candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The former council chairman described the anticipated shift as capable of producing “seismic changes” in the state’s political landscape.
He also framed the contest as a test of voter choice, urging Ogun residents to assess candidates and make informed decisions rather than simply follow established political loyalties.
On the issue of zoning, Adedayo argued that previous political support between the Ijebu and Yewa blocs should be considered in assessing the current contest.
He also questioned Adeola’s claim to Ogun roots, alleging that the APC candidate had no ancestral connection to the state. The claim was not independently established in the report and should be treated as Adedayo’s assertion.
Adebutu narrowly lost the 2023 governorship election to Abiodun, with the APC candidate polling 276,298 votes against Adebutu’s 262,383.
With that relatively close margin, Adedayo’s prediction points to a potentially competitive 2027 race, but his forecast remains a political assessment rather than an established outcome.
He also urged voters to approach the election as a contest requiring informed choices, rather than violence or blind loyalty.
