The Northern Senators Forum has described the deaths of the Emirs of Gumel and Zurmi as a major loss to the traditional institution and their communities.
The Forum said the late monarchs, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, CON, Emir of Gumel, and Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Emir of Zurmi, played important roles in promoting peace, unity and community development.
Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani died on September 3, 2026, while Alhaji Bello Sulaiman died on Monday.
In a condolence statement signed by the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the senators highlighted the different ways the two monarchs used their positions to support their people.
The Forum described the late Emir of Gumel as a scholar and administrator who promoted education and peaceful coexistence during his reign.
It said he encouraged girl-child education and used his position to promote unity across social and ethnic lines.
The senators also praised the late Emir of Zurmi for providing steady leadership during a period of serious security challenges in Zamfara State.
According to the Forum, his five-year reign was marked by efforts to strengthen peace, unity and resilience in the Zurmi Emirate.
The senators said both monarchs used their influence beyond the traditional responsibilities of their offices, particularly through their efforts to support stability and development.
The Forum extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, the Gumel and Zurmi Emirate Councils, and the governments and people of Jigawa and Zamfara states.
It prayed for the repose of the monarchs and asked Almighty Allah to grant their families and communities the strength to bear the loss.
