Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council, has been thrown into mourning following the death of its former chairman, Patrick Osadebamwen, a veteran journalist who spent decades contributing to Nigeria’s media industry.
The NUJ FCT Council confirmed his death in a statement issued in Abuja by its Secretary, Jide Oyekunle, saying the news came with deep sadness after it was confirmed by friends of the deceased.
Osadebamwen was a familiar name in Nigerian journalism, having worked with several media organisations, including Union Newspaper, Core TV and The Nigerian Tribune, before joining Kaftan TV.
His career also saw him rise to the leadership of the NUJ FCT Council, where he served as chairman and represented journalists within the nation’s capital.
The council described his death as a painful loss to his family, colleagues, friends and associates, as tributes continue to pour in over the passing of the respected journalist.
Osadebamwen is survived by three children.
In its condolence message, the NUJ FCT Council urged members of the union to remember the deceased’s family in their prayers and pray for the repose of his soul.
The council also prayed for strength and comfort for his children, relatives, colleagues and friends as they come to terms with the loss.
Meanwhile, arrangements for his burial are expected to be announced as the journalism community mourns one of its own.
