The reported emergence of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as the preferred choice to lead President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign has triggered fresh political reactions within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A political group led by Chief Stanley Ibe has backed Yari, saying his experience could help the Tinubu campaign build wider support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement, Ibe congratulated Yari and praised President Tinubu for what he described as a decision based on political experience and capacity.

The group also raised questions about the reported consideration of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, for the campaign leadership position.

It claimed that some APC governors had reservations about Uzodinma taking charge of the campaign. However, the group did not provide evidence to support its separate allegation concerning an alleged ₦800 billion campaign fund.

The claim could not be independently verified and has not been established as fact.

According to the group, the choice of Yari could help the APC manage its internal interests and strengthen coordination as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

The group said the campaign leadership requires a figure who can work with different political interests and mobilise support across the country.

The development has therefore placed renewed attention on the roles of Uzodinma and Yari in the political calculations surrounding Tinubu’s reported 2027 re-election campaign.

Neither the Presidency nor Governor Uzodinma was quoted as responding to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
