Indigenes of Ikangba, Imodi, Imosan and Agoro communities in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the state government to intervene in a prolonged dispute over land ownership.

The communities made the call on Friday during a press conference at the residence of the Baale of Ikangba.

They urged the government to examine the different court judgments and documents being presented by parties and establish the rightful ownership of the disputed land.

The communities also called on the police, DSS and the state Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force to investigate allegations of threats, harassment and destruction of property linked to the dispute.

They appealed to security agencies to remain neutral and ensure that no person uses security personnel to enforce a private claim to disputed land.

The communities also urged authorities to prevent the use of weapons and bulldozers on the disputed land until the matter is resolved through due process.

They said anyone with a genuine claim to the land should present evidence before the appropriate authorities or courts.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), is expected to conduct an independent inquiry into the dispute.

The inquiry is expected to examine the history of the land, ownership claims, relevant documents, court judgments and boundaries.

The dispute has reportedly been the subject of cases before the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode and the Ogun State Multi-Door Courthouse.

The communities said a 2024 judgment in suit No. HCJ/119/2021 favoured Ikangba Community in one of the cases involving the disputed land.

They further alleged that fresh encroachment and destruction of farms and other property occurred in January 2026.

The allegations have not been independently established, while the persons accused have the right to respond to the claims.

The communities also denied any involvement by their traditional institution in unlawful land acquisition.

They appealed to the state government to resolve the matter peacefully and prevent the dispute from becoming a wider security problem.

They said their main demand was for justice, peace and respect for lawful ownership.
