Davido Turns Election Night Into Celebration as Adeleke Wins Second Term
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of Saturday’s governorship election.
The singer’s reaction came moments after the final results were announced early Sunday, confirming Adeleke’s return to the Osun Government House for another four years.
“WE DID IT UNC!!! @aadeleke_01,” Davido wrote on X.
A video shared alongside the post captured the emotional moment. Davido was watching the result declaration on television with members of his team when the Returning Officer announced Adeleke as the winner.
The singer immediately jumped to his feet, went down on his knees and eventually stretched out on the floor in celebration as members of his team joined the moment.
The result gave Adeleke a decisive victory, with the Accord Party candidate polling 511,067 votes against 444,815 secured by his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeleke won by 66,252 votes, taking 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
The result was formally declared at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo by the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
For Davido, however, the celebration was the culmination of a campaign in which he was far more than a celebrity supporter.
The singer served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and became one of the most visible figures in Adeleke’s campaign, using his huge social media following to mobilise young voters and push the message of voter participation.
He remained active throughout election day, repeatedly pressing INEC for timely publication of polling unit results on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
At 2:33pm on Saturday, he posted: “INEC, it is now 2:33 p.m., yet no result has been uploaded to the IReV portal. What is the delay? Nigerians deserve transparency and timely updates.”
He subsequently urged voters to remain at their polling units until their results were uploaded and entered correctly, while encouraging them to photograph result sheets for verification.
“Don’t leave your polling unit until it is being uploaded on the IReV, protect your vote now,” he wrote in another post.
Davido’s political involvement has accompanied his uncle’s electoral journey for years. Adeleke first won the Osun governorship in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before leaving the party for the Accord Party in December 2025.
With Adeleke now securing another term, Davido’s exuberant celebration marked the end of a closely fought political contest—and another victory for a family that has become one of the most recognisable political forces in Osun.
