New Kogi Central Group Rallies Behind Obaro for 2027 Senate, Rejects Clan Politics

A newly formed political pressure group, the Anebira Rescue Movement Political Family (ARM), has endorsed Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro as its preferred candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Kogi Central Senatorial election in 2027, while condemning what it described as the growing influence of clan-based politics in the district.
The group, unveiled on Friday in Lokoja, said its decision followed extensive consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women’s groups, and other residents across Kogi Central.
Speaking at the inauguration, ARM Convener, Hon. Ahovi Adams, said the movement was established to redirect political discourse from personality clashes and intimidation to governance driven by ideas, competence and development.
According to him, the group will champion policies that prioritise economic empowerment, education, infrastructure, security and youth development, insisting that the district deserves leadership capable of delivering tangible progress.
He described Obaro as a tested leader with the experience, credibility and vision to provide effective representation and rebuild public confidence in governance.
In what appeared to be a strategic political calculation, ARM announced that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan would receive its backing should Obaro fail to secure the APC ticket, citing her record of advocacy on issues affecting Kogi Central.
The movement also called on security agencies to remain neutral in the political process, urging them to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
Turning to the region’s political climate, ARM warned that the increasing dominance of clan-based politics poses a serious threat to the unity of the Ebira people and could deepen divisions within the district.
The group argued that public appointments and access to government opportunities should reflect equity, competence and inclusiveness rather than allegiance to any particular clan.
It further alleged that the current administration has concentrated political appointments and patronage within a single clan, leaving others feeling excluded from governance. Such an approach, it warned, risks alienating communities and undermining long-term political stability.
Drawing a comparison with previous political controversies, ARM recalled criticisms levelled against Hon. Okara over the distribution of ₦50,000 grants to members of the Ezi-Edu Aniku community during his tenure at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office, questioning why similar or larger-scale acts of selective patronage are now allegedly attracting little public scrutiny.
The group concluded with an appeal to political leaders across Kogi Central to embrace inclusive leadership and abandon divisive politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, ARM urged residents to reject intimidation, resist attempts to pit one clan against another, and work collectively towards a more united and inclusive Kogi Central.
