A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State and former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Musa Sule Dutse, has resigned from the ruling party, accusing its leadership of orchestrating a flawed reconciliation process designed to sideline certain aspirants.
Sule, who represented Dutse State Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 15, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Kachi Ward in Dutse Local Government Area.
In the letter, he said his decision to leave the party was informed by what he described as the “unjustified and deceitful conduct” of the reconciliation committee constituted by the state government.
According to him, the committee failed in its mandate to reconcile party members and instead became an instrument for excluding aspirants considered unfavourable by the authorities.
He alleged that the reconciliation exercise was marred by intimidation, bias and blatant injustice, insisting that many participants witnessed what he described as a predetermined process that denied aspirants a fair opportunity.
Sule said he could no longer identify with a political party where internal democracy and fairness had, in his opinion, been sacrificed for political expediency.
“As one of the founding fathers and indeed part of the history-making members of the APC from its inception, I have decided to voluntarily withdraw my membership because of the undesirable role played by the reconciliation committee. Indeed, their role is questionable,” he wrote.
Before his resignation, Sule served as Special Adviser to Governor Umar Namadi on the Dutse Capital Development Authority (DCDA) from 2023 until March 2026, when he stepped down to contest for the APC ticket for the Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency.
However, he was screened out of the party’s primary process, while another aspirant eventually secured the APC ticket.
Although Sule did not disclose his next political destination, his exit is expected to fuel fresh political calculations in Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, where parties have intensified efforts to consolidate their structures and attract influential political figures.
