President Bola Tinubu has approved 27 road projects worth over N3.9 trillion across 15 states as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance economic connectivity nationwide.
The approvals were announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, following a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to Umahi, the projects span Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states.
The largest approval is the N1.8 trillion re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to businessman Aliko Dangote.
Other major projects include the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, the N265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin-Ipapo-Baasi-Saki-Ilesha-Ibaruba Road traversing Oyo and Kwara states, and the N217 billion dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through FGC to Ilorin Road with a spur to Akinmorin.
The council also approved N116 billion for the Abakaliki-Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State, N110 billion for the Ogbomoso-Oko-Illupu Road linking Oyo and Osun states, and N104 billion for the rehabilitation of sections one and two of the Ilorin-Omorin-Ebe-Kabba-Obajana Road in Kwara and Kogi states.
Additional approvals cover road rehabilitation, reconstruction and bridge projects across the participating states, including the Jimeta-Mayo Belwa Road in Adamawa State, the Adikpo-Ajayi-Tese-Akpa-Otukpo Road linking Benue and Cross River states, and the Yola-Fufore-Gurin Road project in Adamawa State.
FEC also approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and directed the commencement of reconstruction works on failed sections of the Ibadan axis using concrete pavement.
Providing an update on ongoing federal highway projects, Umahi disclosed that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed.
He added that work on the remaining 164-kilometre section is progressing and is expected to be completed by November.
The minister said the approvals underscore the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening transportation infrastructure, improving interstate connectivity and supporting economic growth across the country.
