As political calculations, consultations and projections ahead of the 2027 Jigawa State governorship election continue to intensify, discussions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are increasingly focused on identifying a competent and influential deputy governorship candidate capable of strengthening the party’s chances at the polls.
At the center of these conversations is Mallam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, a veteran politician whose experience, political reach and broad acceptability across different political interests have continued to fuel calls for his emergence as the running mate to ADC governorship candidate, Senator Sabo Mohammed Nakudu.
Stakeholders believe Aminu Ibrahim Ringim’s loyalty, experience and political influence make him a strong candidate for the ADC deputy governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 Jigawa governorship election.
Many argue that Ringim’s credentials make him difficult to overlook. A former governorship candidate, former member of the House of Representatives, former Commissioner for Agriculture and former Chief of Staff, he brings decades of experience in governance, legislative affairs and politics. His political career, spanning nearly five decades, has established him as one of Jigawa State’s most enduring political figures.
Observers also point to his role during the ADC governorship primaries, where he reportedly worked to foster unity among party stakeholders and returning members. Political analysts believe his efforts in reconciliation and consensus-building contributed significantly to the emergence of Senator Nakudu as the party’s governorship candidate.
Beyond his experience, Ringim is widely regarded as a grassroots politician with substantial support across the state. Having previously contested for governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), he built an extensive political network and became one of the state’s most recognizable opposition figures.
His supporters further cite his decision to step aside from his own political ambition in support of Senator Nakudu as evidence of political maturity, party loyalty and commitment to collective interests—qualities they believe are essential in a deputy governor.
For many ADC stakeholders, the debate is less about sentiment and more about political strategy. They argue that Ringim combines political experience, administrative competence, grassroots appeal, stakeholder acceptance and the capacity to unite diverse interests within the party.
As consultations and preparations for the 2027 election continue, the ADC faces the challenge of assembling a ticket capable of attracting broad support and expanding the party’s electoral reach across Jigawa State. Within that equation, many political observers view Aminu Ibrahim Ringim as one of the strongest and most viable options available.
Whether or not the party ultimately selects him as its deputy governorship candidate, his influence within the evolving opposition political landscape in Jigawa State remains significant and widely acknowledged.
