The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has tasked newly graduated soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake to confront terrorism, banditry and other security threats with courage, discipline and professionalism.
Speaking at the Passing Out Parade held on Saturday at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Army Chief said the recruits had undergone intensive military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, equipping them to contribute effectively to ongoing efforts to secure the country.
He stressed that the Nigerian Army remains determined to eliminate criminal networks and deny terrorists safe operating spaces, but insisted that all military operations must be carried out in line with established Rules of Engagement and international humanitarian laws.
Gen. Shaibu urged the soldiers to remain disciplined both on and off the battlefield, warning against the irresponsible use of social media. He noted that careless online behaviour and the unauthorised sharing of sensitive information could jeopardise military operations and national security objectives.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS reminded the recruits that Nigerians look to the Armed Forces for protection and expect them to serve with integrity, loyalty and respect for constitutional values.
He also acknowledged the support of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in strengthening the operational capabilities of the military and enhancing its readiness to tackle security challenges.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Shaibu said the newly inducted soldiers would be deployed to reinforce ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace, stability and security across the country.
