Navy Detains Personnel After Clash With Soldiers in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the detention of some of its personnel following a violent clash with soldiers in Bayelsa State during President Bola Tinubu’s visit.
The incident, captured in a viral video, showed a confrontation between uniformed personnel that escalated into a physical altercation involving a naval vehicle driver and a soldier.
The scuffle reportedly broke out as the President was leaving an official engagement in the state, though the immediate cause of the disagreement remains unknown.
In the footage, an argument between drivers quickly degenerated after a soldier allegedly struck a naval officer, sparking a wider exchange of blows among personnel from both sides.
Confirming the development, Navy spokesperson Captain Olufemi Folorunso said those involved have been taken into custody and are undergoing disciplinary procedures in line with military regulations.
He added that the service has commenced a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure appropriate action is taken.
Security authorities are yet to provide further details as investigations continue.
