The Senate and Congregation of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, have elected their representatives into the institution’s reconstituted Governing Council, marking a significant step toward strengthening governance and institutional development.
This was contained in a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Uredo Omale, and made available to journalists on Friday. According to the statement, the elections were conducted during separate emergency meetings held on Wednesday at the University Auditorium.
Omale disclosed that members overwhelmingly endorsed seasoned academics and administrators to represent their interests on the Council. At the Senate meeting, four distinguished professors were unanimously elected.
Those elected include Prof. Sani Momoh of the Department of Biochemistry and current Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies; Prof. Taiye Oluwagbemi of the Department of Forestry; Prof. M.B.S. Jibrin, Head of the Department of English and Literary Studies; and Prof. Victoria Anum, Head of the Department of Broadcasting.
The statement noted that Prof. Momoh brings a wealth of experience in university administration, having served twice as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and as a two-time Branch Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). His track record, it added, is widely regarded as a strong asset to the new Council.
Similarly, Prof. Oluwagbemi, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, was commended for his administrative competence and longstanding contributions to institutional growth.
Prof. Jibrin, a former Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, alongside Prof. Anum, a respected academic and administrator, complete the Senate’s representation, bringing a blend of academic depth and leadership experience to the governing body.
From the University Congregation, two representatives were elected—Comrade Solomon Alfa of the University Clinic and former Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and Dr. Anne Oyewole, Head of the Department of History and International Studies.
Their emergence, according to the statement, reflects the confidence reposed in them by the broader university workforce to contribute meaningfully to policy direction and institutional reforms.
It would be recalled that Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, had earlier approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Suleiman Audu of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
Prof. Audu, a former staff member of PAAU, is widely respected for his deep institutional knowledge and extensive administrative experience, including prior service as a member of the University’s Governing Council and Senate.
Completing the leadership structure is the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, whose academic and administrative trajectory within the institution positions him as a central figure in driving ongoing reforms.
With the reconstitution of the Governing Council, expectations are high that enhanced synergy between the Council and University Management will accelerate academic excellence, infrastructure development, and the overall welfare of staff and students.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Management, congratulated the newly elected and appointed members, urging them to deploy their wealth of experience and commitment to advancing the University in line with the education-focused vision of the Ododo administration.
