Kogi Assembly Confirms Ex-APC Chair Bello as Commissioner, Hails Party Leadership

The Kogi State House of Assembly has confirmed the immediate past state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Bello, as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Bello’s confirmation followed a smooth screening exercise conducted at the Committee of the Whole, after which lawmakers unanimously approved his nomination through a voice vote during plenary presided over by Speaker Aliyu Umar Yusuf.
The Speaker described the process as seamless, noting the absence of petitions or objections against the nominee—an indication, he said, of Bello’s credibility and broad acceptance.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier forwarded Bello’s nomination to the Assembly for approval.
During deliberations, lawmakers praised the former party chairman for his leadership, describing him as a seasoned administrator who strengthened party cohesion and stability over his nine-year tenure.
The House granted Bello the privilege to “take a bow and go,” reserved for nominees with distinguished service records.
Chief Whip Hon. Asema Baba Haruna commended Bello’s political acumen, while Deputy Speaker Comfort Egwaba said the appointment reflected the principle that “the reward for good work is more responsibility.”
In a related development, the Assembly also confirmed Alhaji Sani Salihu as Commissioner for the State Assembly Service Commission.
Both nominations were approved by voice vote.
